American furniture of the immediate post-Civil War years is often a combination of styles (Rococo and Renaissance) both new and old. Adelicia's sewing table is a perfect example of this. The serpentine shaped work box top, lifts to expose a divided interior of finely grained birds eye maple. The trestle base is supported by a central stretcher, which holds a pull out work box highlighted by a fretwork panel, all in original finish.
