These “melon” colored pieces, emblazoned with the Acklen name date from the early years of Adelicia’s marriage to Joseph Acklen. Such sets of bold colors and gilt decoration were mass produced in French factories for the American market. Developing Cotton rich regions of the South yearned for such luxury goods as this china.
