A reporter from The Boston Daily Advertiser published October 10, 1863 who writes, “Guarding a parterre is a great black and white Newfoundland, lying faithfully upon the pedestal whereon the artist placed him.” This statue appears as No. 83 in the 1870 Janes, Kirtland & Co. Catalogue on a cast iron base and a slightly larger size.
