Adelicia and her second husband, Joseph Acklen, moved into Belmont (their newly built summer home) in 1853. They brought with them four children including Emma Franklin (from Adelicia's first marriage to Isaac Franklin) and Joseph, Laura, and Corinne Acklen. Of those children, only Joseph would live to see adulthood. The couple would go on to have three more children. After Joseph's death, Adelicia remarried for a third and final time to Dr. William Cheatham, who brought two children to the marriage. By this time, the mansion was the family's permanent residence.
